Sowers

The primary function of the Sowers Team is evangelism, Missions and Outreach.

The Sowers Team is responsible for all ministries, events, programs and opportunities that are focused on those outside the immediate congregation. The Sowers Team should always be asking, "How can we reach out? How can we BE Jesus to the world around us?" It is the job of the Sowers to think beyond what we have always done and ask, "How can we continue to bring the lost to Jesus Christ?" The Sowers should not only reach out to the community but also be prepared when they come by asking, "What would I think if I were a visitor? What can we do to be sensitive to the needs of the Community? And how can we best serve and minister to the needs of our Neighbors?"

Growers

The primary function of the Growers Team is Discipleship (education).

The Growers Team is responsible for Spiritual Education within the church. This includes Sunday School for both children and adults, VBS, Kids Club, Bible Studies, Small Groups, training/learning events and classes sponsored by the church. It is the responsibility of the Growers Team to make sure that this church is offering Godly, effective and healthy education opportunities for all ages. The Committee should look at the education needs of the congregation and/or community by asking, "what do they need to learn?" and program accordingly. The Growers are responsible for recruiting, training and equipping leaders and teachers. They are always to be asking, "How can we educate in order to bring them closer to God?"

Servers

The primary function of the Servers Team is Worship and Ministry.

The Servers Team is primarily concerned with the care and worship of the congregation especially in the areas of Worship and Ministry. It is the Servers responsibility to work in conjunction with the pastor to help in planning every detail of a worship service. Including decorating the sanctuary/church, oversight of the music ministry, recruitment of lay leadership (liturgist, acolytes, ushers, etc.). Whatever needs to be done to plan, organize, and enhance worship falls under the job description of the Servers. Also, the servers are responsible for making sure every member is involved in some form of ministry or another by taking into account spiritual gifts and skills and helping each person become a vital and productive member that contributes to the ministry and mission of the church.

Fellowship

The primary function of the Fellowship Team is Fellowship and as a resource to the other committees, teams and events.

The Fellowship Team is responsible for planning, promoting and implementing events and ministries that bring the fellowship of believers together. They should be asking, "what would bring us closer to God and closer to each other?" The Fellowship Team is also designed to be a resource team for the rest of the church. The Fellowship Team should always be asking, "What is coming up, and how can we help?" The team should be proactive in offering assistance to the pastor or to teams and committees for services, events and ministries.

Councils and Committees

The church's leadership structure is designed so that all committee and Team heads come together on a regular basis for prayer and decision making for the church. We call this our Administrative Council. Other committees serve the church as well such as:

Trustees - Building and property maintenance
SPPRC (Staff-Pastor-Parish Relations) - which is responsible for personnel issues including the pastor and all other staff.
Lay Leadership Committee - responsible for getting the congregation involved in the ministries of the church.
Finance Committee - responsible for Godly stewardship of the funds that come in and go out from the church.

Other

We have all kinds of other opportunities for fun, fellowship and service such as: softball, volleyball, dartball, bowling teams, and euchre parties. We are always looking for people to serve as ushers, greeters, fellowship hosts, liturgists (Bible verse readers), and on our audio-visual team. There are literally hundreds of ways for you to get involved, there is a place for you to grow and serve at Gordon UMC!
